01 About the project

The story behind it.

Free-to-air television reaches only part of Papua New Guinea's islands. Wantok TV wanted the rest of the country watching its local programming on a phone or tablet, free for anyone on the islands, with access from outside the country blocked by IP.

We built the full app and the web panel behind it. Viewers register, then browse a broadcast schedule, catch the programs and events worth planning around, and keep up with push notifications and their own profile. Ad banners run inside the app, which is how the service pays for itself. The API sits on PHP 7, the admin panel is built on Angular, and the mobile side runs on Ionic 5 so one codebase covers both stores.

Managers work from the panel to handle users, publish and edit program entries, and schedule the banners that appear in the app. When development finished, both builds went live in the App Store and on Google Play.
